Mark is a Consultant Anaesthetist with subspecialist interest in regional anaesthesia. Regional anaesthesia involves the use of local anaesthetic drugs to block nerve function for a period of time. It is most often used in orthopaedic surgery, but also in other types of surgery including plastic surgery and abdominal surgery.

After his medical school training Mark spent two years as a medical officer with the British Antarctic Survey. He then began his anaesthetic training with two years in Norwich, he then spent 5 years based in Cambridge doing specialist training.
